Apple Weekend has passed us by now, & the gardens are returning to normality once again with only a few wear marks left over. A good, if tiring weekend was had by all, & almost all our fruit was sold over the course of the two days. Plants for sale from our nursery have reduced considerably, yet there is still a good selection available. In fact, following the garden closing down for the season on Saturday 24th, we have decided to continue with plant sales during Wednesday's, so do pop in if you're looking for a plant or three! With loans from other gardens, & our own stock, we had approximately forty varieties of apple on display; many originating in the Warwickshire/Gloucestershire areas. As with previous years, Richard Toft from Pershore was on hand to offer advice on top fruit cultivation & identification.
We have over sixty varieties of apple growing at Hill Close Gardens, & we are nurturing many of these as mature trees. As the gardens are developing, we are gradually expanding our collection to widen the interest, & to help preserve local varieties where possible. If you don't have time this coming Friday afternoon/Saturday, (Season closes on Saturday,) do visit us next season, a full 2010 events list is due shortly! Cheers, Gary. http://www.hillclosegardens.com/
